What is the bar attachment denture?
This type of denture is different than the traditional denture. It is permanently attached and should never require removing. The patient can eat as they normally would with them and clean them as they would their natural teeth. Most patients find the Bar Attachment Denture to be much easier to deal with than the standard loose denture appliance.
To attach your bar attachment dentures, we place four titanium implants, a dental device that resembles screws, directly into your jawbone. This system is strong, secure, and durable.
Why titanium?
Titanium is used for skeletal and surgical procedures all over the human body, not just in dentistry, but for knee replacements, hip repair and more. This metal is biocompatible, meaning that your body will not reject it, and in fact, your body will react quite naturally in healing with it. Your body will heal around and with the titanium implant, bonding it to your bone. With healing time, the titanium will become bonded through a process called osseointegration, meaning a firm and strong hold.
Am I a candidate for bar attachment dentures?
When considering having your denture permanently attached, a member of our dental team will meet with you for a consultation and evaluation before placement. If you’re already wearing dentures, you are most likely a prime candidate for this procedure. If you’re missing multiple teeth, or have few healthy teeth left, you are most likely a candidate for this procedure. There will be factors that we need to discuss, namely the amount of available bone that the patient has, and any health issues that may lengthen healing time. Both of these factors are things that our team will discuss with you during your evaluation. We will want to know of all health related issues and medications that are being taken.
