What are Dental Implants?

Posted on 10/25/2021 by Janie Scholes
What are Dental Implants?Missing teeth can have a negative effect on one's confidence and overall look. Getting a dental implant is the best route to resolving this dental issue. A dental implant is a titanium post drilled into the jawbone to support a crown or fake tooth.

Implants are one of the safest and long-lasting solutions to missing teeth. They are sturdy and have the same feeling and bite like natural teeth. At our dental clinic, we provide quality dental implants that will restore your perfect set of pearly whites. There are two main types of dental implants we can fit to replace your missing teeth.

Types Most Common Types of Dental Implants

The most common type of implant we use to replace our patient's missing teeth are endosteal implants. We drill these titanium implants shaped like screws into the jawbone and leave them to heal. After a few weeks, the surrounding tissue fuses with the implant and then is ready for artificial teeth to attach to the post. For the best results, we place the endosteal implants during two separate visits.

Subperiosteal implants are a good alternative if our patients want to avoid intense surgery or bone grafting. We place the dental implant on the bone under the gum tissue instead of into the jawbone in this procedure. This type is best if our patients have suffered severe bone loss from missing teeth. Our team places the subperiosteal implants during one procedure and takes a short time to heal. As long as you maintain proper oral hygiene, both types of dental implants can help restore tooth function for many years.

Dental implants not only improve your smile but your overall health. If you want to learn more about the best dental implants for you, our team of professionals can help you. To schedule your appointment, please contact us today.
