Periodontal stabilization splints can be incredibly beneficial to patients, giving them a chance to preserve their teeth. But, like any major dental procedure, there are a few adverse side effects that can accompany them. Recognizing the Possible Disadvantages of SplintsIt's important to know that we do not recommend periodontal stabilization splints to our patients unless they are medically necessary and the benefits outweigh the risks. Having splints inserted can take pressure off individual teeth, improving their stability and reducing the bite force asserted upon them when you chew.
