![]() Your smile is the first thing that many people will notice about you. Many of our patients come to us with various concerns about their smile. One of these concerns is a “gummy” smile, where the gum tissue makes the teeth appear short and crowded. A procedure that we frequently recommend to address this issue is crown lengthening. Crown lengthening is a process whereby we trim away some of the excess gum tissue. It makes the teeth appear to be longer and can make a huge difference in your appearance. Still, the procedure is not for everyone. Here are some things to think about if you are considering having crown lengthening done. Your Gum Tissue Should Be in Good HealthTo start out, you need to consider the state of your gum tissue. Do you have strong teeth and healthy gums? If so, you are probably a good candidate for crown lengthening. Another consideration is whether you have an adequate amount of bone tissue surrounding the roots of your teeth. As you know, the teeth are anchored in the jawbone, and without adequate bone tissue, you run a risk when undergoing crown lengthening. If we feel that removing any gum tissue could contribute to any destabilization of the teeth, we will likely recommend against it. Do You Have Questions About Crown Lengthening?Of course, the choice of whether to undergo any procedure is not one that you should make based on a single blog post. For this reason, we want you to know that we are here to talk with you about your options. Whether you ultimately decide to undergo crown lengthening or not, we want you to make the choice only after getting all the information you can. So give us a call, or come by the office. We're here to help you. |
