Have you recently been told that you need a soft tissue graft? This may sound overwhelming, but it shouldn't be. Getting a soft tissue graft can help restore your oral health to a place where it was some time ago. It can be helping to build up your gum tissue, or even build up areas of your mouth where further restoration procedures will follow. By getting new oral tissues put in place by way of a soft tissue graft, you have the opportunity to rebuild your mouth so that you have all of the functionality that you want and need. Soft Tissue Grafts Sound Worse Than They AreMost people think of graft and become nervous. However, when it comes to a soft tissue graft, there is no reason to be. Typically, you feel better than you did before simply by having a soft tissue graft done. The most common soft tissue graft for your mouth is having a bit of tissue put back into your gums where it receded. This could be recession from gum disease, trauma to the area, or simply from a lost tooth. Another common soft tissue graft for your mouth includes covering the roots of teeth that became exposed. This is slightly different than building up gum tissue, but that is often combined with a bone graft to help make restoration possible. This is simply putting a small bit of soft tissue over the exposed root in an attempt to keep the pain and danger of an exposed root away. If you want to find out more about a soft tissue graft, then ask your periodontist. They are the ones that would be performing much of the procedure, and they can tell you how much your mouth could benefit.
