Smartphones are wonderful inventions that allow us to do many things we could not have imagined even a few short years ago. Now there is a device available for your smartphone that will help you in your fight against gum disease. Tracking Gum DiseaseGum disease, as with many other diseases, can be detected by the presence of certain biomarkers in your bodily fluids. Specifically, certain protein biomarkers can indicate the elevated presence of specific types of bacteria; these bacteria are commonly involved in gum disease. The OJ-Bio device uses a disposable biochip to "read" the "contents" of bodily fluids. When you place a small amount of a sample such as saliva or blood on the biochip, the biomarker that you are looking for will interact with proteins on the surface of the chip;; this, in turn, sends a signal to your smartphone app giving you the results of the test. The device is small, portable, and-perhaps best of all-affordable. Now you have a great way to keep an eye on the bacterial levels in your mouth; this in turn will give you a good idea of how you are doing in your battle against gum disease. Remember that the best tools to prevent or reverse gum disease are your toothbrush and dental floss. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss once a day, to help your body fight off infection and prevent the development of gum disease. We are here to help you, so if you have any questions about gum disease, please contact us during your next scheduled cleaning. If you don’t want to wait that long, feel free to contact us and ask your question. We’re happy to help you keep a healthy and happy mouth. Click an icon below to share our blog. Back to Blog Home |
